Who we are

Paul M. Gutierrez

A working journalist for more than 20 years now, having joined the Philippine Journalists, Inc (PJI) in 1998, as a provincial correspondent covering the Southern Tagalog region for the publications’ two major papers, ‘People’s Journal’ and ‘People’s Journal Tonight.’

Prior to this, he has short stints as a radio reporter and contributor to various periodicals and magazines in Manila; he also worked as correspondent for the ‘Daily Tribune’ and editor of the ‘Pilipino Reporter’ magazine.

Gutierrez has extensively covered the police, the military, local politics and the communist insurgency in Southern Tagalog.

In Manila, he has covered the so-called ‘Intramuros beat’ that includes the Bureau of Customs, Department of Public Works and Highways, Bureau of Immigration, Department of Labor and Employment and, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.

Presently, Gutierrez is covering the Bureau of Customs and the Philippine Senate for the PJI where he also writes a regular column.

Gutierrez is also an official of the National Press Club (NPC), one of the oldest and biggest organization of active members of the Philippine press

Herman Tiu Luarel

Senior citizen socio-political activist commentator and public affairs initiator; writer, educator, entrepreneur.

Former government tasked United Nation High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR) administrator for the Philippine Refugee Processing Center (PRPC) and of the Philippine Refugee Transit Center (PRTC) operations, and chair of the GOP-UNHCR Commission on Refugees.

Former consultant to various government administrative and political offices such as the Ministry of Human Settlements, Quezon City government, City of Manila administration, Office of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.

Journalist in print and broadcast media, columnist of several national newspapers in the course of three decades, host of several radio, TV and cable TV programs aired over regular and Internet platforms, and social media producer and broadcaster.

Franco Deocaris

Franco A. Deocaris is the man-to-see when it comes to creative design. He has been part of various publications for over 25 years, acquiring critical skills and discipline in designing coffee table books, magazines, brochures, newspapers, and tabloids. 

Humbly starting as an editorial assistant in a publishing house directed by the late Betty Go-Belmonte, he has taken his skills in layout design to the next level as a layout artist and PageMaker Expert to Computerworld Philippines and Philippine Daily Inquirer, respectively.

Developing the speed in layout and knowledge in the printing industry, he was sought after by publishers who were just starting their own publications. Among these were the national daily tabloids Hataw and Hagupit. 

Aside from newspapers and tabloids, he ventured into designing various magazines and coffee table books. To hone his skills, he has attended printing expositions both here and abroad developing new expertise for the ever-evolving challenges of creative design in the world of graphic industry.
