Mindoro detainee shoots 3 then ‘kills’ self

A SHOOTING incident inside the Oriental Mindoro Provincial Jail in Calapan City, wounded three detainees before the suspect, also a detainee, allegedly turn the gun on himself and committed suicide.

Information reaching Pinoy Exposé disclosed the incident took place past 2:00AM on September 7, 2021, involving suspect Edison Sulit Sampaga, aka, ‘Balbon,’ 41 years old.

Sampaga, a resident of Bgy. Guinobatan, Calapan City, was in jail for violation of RA 10591 (illegal possession of firearms and ammunition).

Sampaga was allegedly armed with a 9mm pistol when he started shooting resulting to the wounding of fellow detainees, Mark Bellesa Dela Cruz, 42; Hector Culla Abes, 41; and, Christian Encarnacion Licuan, 45.

About one hour later, members of the Calapan City Police Office along with its ‘SWAT’ (Special Weapons and Tactics) team proceeded to the provincial jail located inside the compound of the Provincial Capitol after being informed by Prison Guard Team Leader Ricky Sevilla Rom of the situation.

The police allegedly tried to negotiate with Sampaga but the latter instead turn the gun on himself and committed suicide.

It was not clear from the information provided how Sampaga managed to have possession of the gun despite being a detainee.
