THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) headed by Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno rolled out the red carpet for Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Romeo S. Brawner during the graduation rite for the newly formed Customs Police Rapid Intervention Group at the Port of Manila last Monday, May 11, 2026.
In his speech, the AFP chief underscored the vital role of the new unit in combating smuggling, illegal trafficking, and transnational crimes.
A total of 29 trainees composed of one officer and 28 non-commissioned officers (NCOs) completed the rigorous training program supervised by the AFP aimed at enhancing their operational capability, discipline, leadership, and readiness against evolving security threats.
“Our nation is facing evolving security challenges. Issues such as smuggling, illegal trafficking, transnational crimes, and other threats undermine not only economic stability but also public safety and national security.
“Your work may not always be visible to the public, but it is vital,” General Brawner said, as he also reminded the graduates to uphold integrity, discipline, and professionalism in the performance of their duties.
Brawner was later given a Plaque of Appreciation by Commissioner Nepomuceno and other Customs officials while retired Police Brigadier General Nolasco K. Bathan, Deputy Commissioner, Enforcement Group, formally confirmed the graduates of the training program (article based on the statement released by the AFP).
