PRESIDENT Marcos Jr., thru the Office of the Executive Secretary (OES) has silently dismissed Undersecretary Severo Catura, Executive Director of the Presidential Human Rights Committee (PHRC), after being accused of violating the Data Privacy Act and for alleged sexual misconduct raised by one of his female staffers.
Informed sources said the OES recommended to the President to no longer renew Catura’s appointment after the allegations became public knowledge.
Ironically, the accusations against Catura, who has held the position since the time of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, are for violations of the human and civil rights of those under him.
The PHRC’s mandate calls for upholding, advancing and protecting human rights. The office is also Malacañang main liaison with international human rights organization, including the United Nations.
Go and De Guzman Law Office (GLDO), counsel for the complainant, said that despite Catura’s dismissal, he still faces a complaint they filed before the National Privacy Commission (NPC) and two administrative complaints that are under investigation by the Office of the President.
