NAIA chief conducts “readiness check” on return to Customs

RETURNING Port of NAIA District Collector Atty. Yasmin Obillos-Mapa, immediately conducted a “readiness check” and ground visits at the various warehouses and facilities under her jurisdiction after being reappointed by Malacañang to her old post.

In a press statement, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) said Mapa, on her first week in office this month conducted site inspection and engagement with stakeholders at the following:

DHL Express Philippines, Cargohaus, Philippine Airlines (PAL), and People’s Air Cargo and Warehousing (Paircargo) followed with courtesy visits from Central Airlines, Flight Axis, and other partner offices.

Mapa also conducted parcel sampling at the Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEX) in Pasay City, which is among the routes regularly used by smugglers, to test the staff’s readiness in interdicting contrabands.

In a Customs Personnel Order (CPO) dated October 28 approved by Department of Finance (DOF) Secretary Ralph Recto, erstwhile NAIA District Collector Alexandra Lumontad was transferred as the new district collector at the Port of Cebu.

Assistant Commissioner Atty. Vincent Maronilla administered Mapa’s oath of office in a simple ceremony at the BOC Main Office at the Port of Manila.

Meanwhile, erstwhile Port of Cebu District Collector Atty. Felipe Geoffrey De Vera has been reassigned at the office of Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno.
