‘Remain focus on our core mandates’— Comm. Nepomuceno

BUREAU of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno called on the agency’s top officials to remain focus on the agency’s core mandates of revenue generation, trade facilitation, and border protection anchored on integrity and public trust, as he attends his first ‘Collectors’ Conference’ held in Clark, Pampanga, last August 15.

The meeting also gave Comm. Nepomuceno the opportunity to personally meet and converse with the collectors of the bureau’s 17 collection districts since his appointment by President Marcos Jr. last June 30.

In his address, Commissioner Nepomuceno emphasized accountability, transparency, and performance, reminding district collectors to balance revenue collection with border protection and to maintain zero tolerance against smuggling and illegal imports.

He also underscored the need to strengthen stakeholder engagement, simplify processes, and strictly observe ease-of-doing-business measures.

Comm. Nepomuceno also commended the gathered officials for their effort that resulted to the agency surpassing its collection assignment in July, the highest monthly figure thus far coinciding with his first full month in office.

Based on the report from the bureau’s Financial Service, the BOC collected P85.459 billion, for a surplus collection of P1.084 billion, from its assigned target of P84.365 billion.

The figure is also 6.4 percent higher compared to the P80.355 billion collection for the same period last year and is also P8.424 billion higher than its collection in June that only reached P77.035 billion.
