Isko sweeps Manila mayoralty race, as expected
COMEBACKING Manila mayor, Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso, handily won the mayoralty race in the May 12 midterm elections, crushing his ‘nearest’ rival, incumbent Mayor Honey Lacuna by more than three times her final votes.

Moreno was proclaimed mayor of the country’s capital the following day at the Session Hall of the Manila City Hall where the official vote count was held. Also proclaimed was his running mate, Vice Mayor Chi Atienza who also swamped her nearest rival, incumbent Yul Servo Nieto by the same margin.
The final vote tally showed Moreno garnering 554,401 votes against Lacuna’s 196,042 votes. On the other hand, Atienza got 608,554 votes against the 257,093 votes of Nieto.
Eleven candidates vied for the Manila mayoralty post and the final tally showed that if even all the votes of his rivals were added together, Moreno would still handily win the contest.
In sports betting parlance, it was ‘gate-to-wire’ victory for Moreno and Atienza.
