NEW Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla, was quickly approved by the Commission on Appointments’ Committee on the Interior and Local Government, which also endorsed his appointment to the CA’s plenary session last November 20.

Remulla, younger brother of Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin ‘Boying’ Remulla, had initially intended to run for his third and last consecutive term as  governor of Cavite in the 2025 midterm election.

However, he withdrew his certificate of candidacy on October 7, 2024, six days after filing it, after he was appointed by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as DILG secretary when Secretary Benhur Abalos resigned to pursue his Senate bid under the administration ticket.

Remulla served as the governor of Cavite from 2019 to 2024 and from 2010 to 2016, and had previously served as vice governor and as provincial board member of Cavite (Screen grab/Senate Public Relations and Information Bureau).
