THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Subic announced the successful condemnation of 3,000 cases of assorted brands of smuggled cigarettes worth more than ₱129.065 million through shredding and pyrolysis.
Port of Subic District Collector Atty. Geniefelle P. Lagmay informed Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno said the supervised condemnation and destruction were held from July 28 to August 3 at the Legaxy 88 Recyclable Materials Collection Services in Santa Maria, Bulacan, the Port’s accredited disposal facility.
To ensure transparency and accountability, the disposal activities were livestreamed through the Port of Subic’s official YouTube account [https://www.youtube.com/@BOC-PortofSubic], allowing the public to witness the destruction process, Lagmay said.
She added the cigarettes, loaded in 3 container vans, form part of the 10 containers of abandoned cigarettes identified for disposal, with a total estimated value of approximately ₱413 million.
Lagmay said the condemnation and disposal of the remaining cigarettes are ongoing and can be viewed by the public thru the Port of Subic’s official YouTube channel.
It can be recalled that a controversy erupted over the condemnation process after rogue elements from the Highway Patrol Group, National Capital Region (HPG-NCR) barged into the facility on the evening of August 19, pretending they are on official mission in an failed effort to take away the condemned cigarettes.
The incident resulted to the relief and investigation of the HPG raiding team (Pinoy Exposé, August 24, 2026).
