A CHINESE national wanted for the murder of his compatriot in Makati City, was arrested while trying to get back into the country via the southern backdoor onboard a speed boat in the vicinity of Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, last July 19.
Philippine National Police (PNP) director general, P/General Nicolas Torre III said suspect Wang Dan Yu, also known as ‘Bao Long,’ is also the principal suspect in the kidnapping last February of a 14-years old Malaysian-Chinese national at the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) after coming out of his school, the prestigious ‘Briths School Manila.’
Wang was also fingered in another kidnap-for ransom’ (KFR) case that victimized another Chinese national in Manila in August 2022.
In the first incident, the student, identified in other media reports as ‘Andy Wan’ was freed after his family allegedly paid $20 million in ransom. However, one of his fingers was cut off by his abductors to send the clear message that they mean “business.”
Although both victims refused to file charges, Torre noted that Wang has an arrest warrant from the Makati City Regional Trial Court for the killing last October 17, 2024 of Liu Jiabin inside a restaurant in Makati City, following a verbal altercation.
“The PNP have ways to monitor individuals and control the situation. Kaya nakita natin, na-monitor natin ang kanyang mga plano hanggang sa nalaman natin na siya ay babalik kaya hindi na natin siya pinagbigyan na makagalaw pa nang malaya dito sa bansa natin.
“Inaresto na natin siya pagtapak niya sa Philippine soil,” Torre said.
A Sunstar report datelined July 21 added that Police Brigadier General Jaysen De Guzman, Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR) director, confirmed the hunt for Wang was based on a ‘Special Intelligence Project’ “Long Extract” go-signaled by Torre on July 14, five days before its successful conclusion.
