THE Philippines remain in the crosshairs of international drug rings as a transshipment point and market for illegal drugs with the apprehension of yet another foreign drug courier last September 18 who was bringing in 4 kilos of shabu worth P27 million thru the Mactan-Cebu International Airport.
In a statement, the BOC said the male passenger from South Africa who arrived via Hongkong was immediately flagged after his luggage showed “suspicious X-Ray images.”
Further check involving the airport’s K-9 Unit also indicated the presence of illegal drugs prompting a one hundred percent examination that resulted to the drug’s discovery.
Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno, who was also in Cebu for a meeting with the bureau’s district collectors, led the inspection of the confiscated drugs.
At the NAIA last September 15, the BOC also announced the arrest of a woman Swiss national who was caught carrying 5 kilos of shabu while last July 14, two Filipinos who arrived from Bangkok, Thailand, were also arrested for transporting 44 kilos of shabu (Pinoy Exposé, September 17, 2025).
