IT HAS only been several weeks since his arrival and assumption of his post as China’s new Philippine envoy, but HE Ambassador Jing Quan is fast creating the impression that he intends to live up to the intent and spirit of his “mission” as he posted in the Chinese Embassy’s website:
“I will remain steadfast in safeguarding China’s interests and dignity, while also doing my utmost to serve as a bridge between our two countries.”
Down the line, he also “warmly encourages” the public to regularly visit the website “for you to learn more about China (as it is) a dynamic platform to follow the latest developments in our bilateral relations.”
And over the way things have develop thus far, the Chinese Embassy has shown it is ready to meet every calumny, distortion of facts, slander, and outright Sinophobia being peddled by some Philippine officials who are clearly under the pay and influence of foreign actors, primarily, US Imperialism with their agitation for confrontation with China amplified by the local branch of the Western ‘presstitutes.’
To the great annoyance of American stooges like Jake Tarriela of the Philippine Coast Guard, his every lie, distortion of facts and attempt at escalation is now being clarified and met head-on by the Chinese Embassy thru its deputy spokesperson, Guo Wei.
The narrative, especially on what has been happening at the disputed parts of the South China Sea, is no longer one-sided but two-dimensional—the public, especially the media, now gets to learn the other side of the story.
We predict that several more rounds of this social media tit-for-tat between Tarriela and Guo and Tarriela would be exposed for what he truly is: a hardcore ‘Brown Americanista.’
Among freedom-loving nations he would be classified as “traydor sa Bayan” but he can thank the Almighty this is the Philippines.
(If Tarriela has any sense of priority right now, what he should be explaining to his minions in the media is why his reported relative, Cong. Leody ‘Odie’ Tarriela of Mindoro Occidental, should not be in jail and in disgrace for involvement in the multi-billion flood control project scam, according to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure and as originally alleged by the Discayas).
Since PBBM’s decision in early 2023 to return us to the claws of US Imperialism while maintaining the fiction of sovereignty, the anti-China campaign, in all shape and form, has been massive and consistent.
Thus, it may take a while before the tide of public opinion in favor of clarity, dialogue and decent relations between China and the Philippines can return as what seems to be the goal of Amb. Jing.
Filipinos, like people in other countries (Japan, EU, Africa, etc.) subjugated and constantly intimidated by Imperialism have become victims of the ‘Stockholm/Pattie Hearst Sydrome’—we ended up embracing, supporting and always believing our oppressors.
And freeing such captive mentality is not an easy task, a task that is made more difficult when responsible officials are leading the charge towards our perennial subservience to US Imperialism.
But with time and patience, Amb. Jing’s strategy of openness and clarity can help move events in the right direction.
