Drug claimant arrested as NAIA remains in forefront of govt. anti-drug campaign
₱27.54 million shabu intercepted at Port of Clark
THE Port of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) under Collector Atty. Yasmin O. Mapa remains in the forefront of the government’s anti-drug campaign as it turns over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) abandoned parcels containing illegal drugs worth over ₱56 million while arresting another suspect who tried to claim a shipment of shabu last June 16.
In a report to Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno, Collector Mapa said they turned over to the PDEA a total of 14 abandoned parcels found to contain illegal drugs that originated from various countries in Asia, Europe, and the United States.
The drug haul includes shabu (7.005 kilos), high-grade marijuana or “kush” (5.922 kilos), 100 pieces of vape cartridges with liquid marijuana, and opium poppy (8.177 kilos), all with a total estimated value of ₱56,010,700.
The prohibited items were concealed in various goods, including water filters, a speaker, and assorted food items, Mapa noted.
She further reported that last June 16, a male suspect, whose identity was not revealed, was also arrested while in the act of claiming a parcel containing 505 grams of shabu valued at ₱3.43 million at the Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC) in Pasay City.
The parcels were examined after being flagged during customs screening and risk assessment procedures. A physical inspection subsequently revealed the suspected illegal drugs concealed within the shipments.
₱27.54 million shabu intercepted at Clark
At the Port of Clark, District Collector Jairus S. Reyes informed Commissioner Nepomuceno that they also intercepted a shipment of containing 4.05 kilos of shabu with an estimated value of ₱27.54 million that arrived on June 9.
An inspection of the shipment declared as “nail powder and other salon products” two days later resulted to the discovery of the illegal drugs, Reyes said, adding the shipment from the United States is bound to an address in Mandaluyong City.
The contraband is now under the custody of the PDEA, Reyes added.
