Erwin, Jinggoy back Dizon appointment at DPWH
SENATOR Erwin Tulfo and Senator Jinggoy Estrada welcomed the appointment of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vivencio ‘Vince’ Dizon as the new Secretary at the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), due to the resignation of Secretary Manuel Bonoan over the controversy surrounding the massive corruption that attended the implementation of flood control projects in the billions of pesos.
Bonoan tendered his resignation to Malacañang effective on September 1, due to “command responsibility,” according to President Marcos Jr.
Tulfo, Chair of the Senate Committee on Games and Amusement, Social Justice, Welfare and Rural Development and Vice Chair of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee that is handling the flood control probe said Dizon’s transfer to the DPWH would be a “good start” in cleansing the department of corruption.
He noted that while Dizon is just 6-months in his tenure at the DOTr, the official also showed his mettle by acting swiftly on complaints. “That is the kind of leadership that we want,” said Tulfo, the younger brother of Sen. Raffy Tulfo.
“Sa dami ng lumalabas na impormasyon tungkol sa mga anomalya sa flood control projects, kailangan natin ng kalihim na agresibo at hindi natutulog sa mga ebidensya. Dapat aksyon agad, hindi palusot,” he added.
For his part, Estrada, Senate Pro Tempore, echoed the performance of Dizon at the DOTr.
“I hope that with Secretary Dizon’s appointment, the unacceptable goings on at the DPWH would be ended,” Estrada said.
Estrada also expressed sympathy to Bonoan’s decision to leave the DPWH, describing it as “regrettable.”
“It’s regrettable that Sec. Manuel Bonoan, who rose from the ranks in the DPWH, had to leave the post when the department is enmeshed in questionable projects.
“His experience has been valuable in overseeing critical infrastructure projects aimed at spurring development and improving the lives of our people,” Estrada said,
