Region 12 Prosecutor’s Office under Mastura ranks highest
THE Region 12 Prosecutor’s Office (Soccsksargen) under Mariam April Mastura, Officer-In-Charge, garnered the perfect score of 5 points among the regional prosecution offices of the Department of Justice (DOJ) for the first semester of the year.
Based on the result of the assessment, only Region 12 garnered the perfect score of 5 points based on the four major performance “indicators” of all prosecution offices under Department Circular (DC) 39 approved by Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla in November 2023.
The indicators are: case disposition (40 percent), ‘aging’ or the number of days a case has been acted upon counted on the day it was received (40 percent), success (conviction) rate (10 percent) and ‘timeliness’ of action on each complaint (10 percent).
The ranking disclosed that Region 12 is followed in the top 5 performing offices by Region 10 (Northern Mindanao/Cagayan de Oro/Iligan City) with a rating of 4.98 points; Region 11 (Davao) and Region 13 (Caraga) at 4.97 points; Region 2 (Cagayan Valley) at 4.94 points; and Region 4B (Mimaropa) and Region 7 (Central Visayas/Cebu) at 4.91 points.
The National Capital Region (NCR) performed poorly, placing 7th after Region 8 with their scores of 4.88 points and 4.87 points, respectively.
The result also showed that the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (BARMM) registered the worst performance at just 4.71 points.
Secretary Remulla designated Mastura as Region 12 OIC last March 28 with the retirement of the highly-respected regional prosecutor, Al P. Calica.
Incidentally, Mastura is among those being considered for the top regional post by Secretary Remulla along with 5 other applicants.
