Make no mistake, peeps, China will fight

BEFORE proceeding, yours truly take note of the letter sent to us by Ms. Annalyn L. Almadin, a licensed customs broker at the Bureau of Customs.

In her letter dated August 7, 2020, Ms. Almadin emphatically denied that she was the customs broker implicated in the foiled P186.7 million cigarette smuggling attempt from China at the Manila International Container Port (MICP) that was apprehended by Intelligence Group last July 25, 2020.

The story appeared not only in the July 27, 2020 issue of People’s Tonight but also, in the last issue (August 3-9) issue of this paper.

The letter was in the vernacular but as Ms. Almadin emphasized, she was not the broker in that smuggling attempt perpetrated by ‘Rhyanne Consumer Goods Trading’ and ‘Yuenvels Company.’

“In my seven years as customs broker, not once have I been linked in any illegal or ‘dirty’ transaction. This is because it is important for me to have a clean reputation,” Ms. Almadin said.

My apology, Ms Almadin, for the distraught or anxiety the articles caused you; my information was provided by an official of the bureau and at the time, I have no reason to doubt the accuracy of the information.

As it was, the brokers concerned should be Joey Mangilaya Laurente and Blessila Jangad Dumadanfor, based on the “corrected” information belatedly provided to yours truly by the office of district collector Romeo Rosales, thru the PIAD-BOC.

I am of course printing Ms. Almadin’s side of the issue as to correct any error is also an obligation of any journalist.

It would be the height of stupidity for any one to fall into the trap of US Imperialism’s narrative that the rise of China as a global economic power is a threat to global security, especially, in the stability of Asia.

For any sane and rational person looking into the map could easily see that it is the United States, with its hundreds of military bases in foreign soils that is THE THREAT to global stability.

Since China’s “re-opening” in 1978 under Premier Deng Xiaoping, China has only exported goods and services; the United States on the other hand, had been involved in intrigues and destabilization of foreign countries since the 1820s, beginning with its closest neighbor, Mexico. And from the beginning of the last century, US aggression is there for all to see, from Cuba, the Philippines and yes, in the “partition” of China by the Western imperialist states.

Especially under Pres. Donald Trump, we now see that the US will not tolerate any other country rising above the level of development that it has assigned to it, an arrogance that we are seeing now in its treatment of China—and the Philippines, as well.

The US is now aggressively pushing for its own “containment” policy against China, the same policy it is also pursuing against Russia (and which proved successful against the USSR).

In this regard, the US should learn from the lessons of history.

While China keeps on repeating that it is NOT seeking a contest with the United States or any country for that matter nor is it seeking supremacy over the United States, this does not mean China will not fight if attacked by America.

Remember that even as one of the poorest countries after World War 2 and just barely 2 years after it triumphed over the Koumintangs, China, with primitive weapons, fought the United States to a draw in the Korean War.

And China would not have intervened at all, despite the prodding of Josef Stalin, had the US forces in Korea under Gen. Douglas MacArthur, not ignored China’s warning for the Americans not to cross the Yalu River in late 1950, its border with Korea.

China too, is still a poor country when it decided to shoot it out, over border issues, with India in 1962 and the Soviet Union in 1969, despite the chaos of the Cultural Revolution.

And again, while still a poor country, it was China’s material support to Vietnam that made it possible for the Vietnamese to bludgeoned US Imperialism to an embarrassing defeat by 1975.

China is not looking for trouble but if US Imperialism believes it can still bully its way around everywhere, especially here in this part of Asia, it should be ready to be bludgeoned—again.

Simply put, China will fight.
