Why Gibo Teodoro can’t see reality

IN my article, ‘Macron, Hegseth and the Oaf on the MI6 theater’ for the web journal of our thinktank, Asian Century Philippine Strategic Studies Institute (https://asiancenturyph.com), I exposed the MI6 link (British Intelligence) of the IISS (International Institute for Strategic Studies) as the true stage director for the so-called “Asia’s premier defense summit,” the ‘Shangri-la Dialogue.’

This annual dialogue/forum that started in 2002 is actually a platform for Western Imperialism’s’ “cognitive warfare” being fronted by the ‘two-faced’ Singapore government.

For at least two years now, its organizers have allowed the US-proxy Philippine government to project its anti-China posturing anchored on the South China Sea issue.

Last year, no less than Bongbong Marcos was keynote speaker. This year, held from May 30 to June 1, Philippine defense secretary, Gibo Teodoro, was also given prominent treatment just right after French president Emmanuel Macron, who pushed the “Asian NATO,” (unpopular among Asians), and US defense secretary Pete Hegseth who rabble roused against China and sales talked Asia to buy more arms.

Gibo Teodoro did two things. First, he spread disinformation about the circumstances surrounding ‘Mischief Reef’ where the Ramos government (1992-1998) resorted to underhanded tactics in betraying a joint development agreement with China by secretly granting an exploration permit to an American oil company (see Bobi Tiglao column of June 6, 2025). This prompted China to set up protective structures there.

On this basis Teodoro claims that Chinese delegates to the dialogue have no right to raise question because China has “trust deficit” over its decision to reinforce its presence on Mischief Reef because of FVR’s betrayal.

Teodoro’s other task was to fend off questions about the “proxy” status of the Philippines, vis-à-vis America’s war preparations against China.

In this piece, let me address the so-called “trust deficit” that Teodoro raised against China. It is debunked by a May 14, 2025 report on the ‘Democracy Perception Index’ global survey that represents the opinion of 91 percent of the global population.

The survey is commissioned by the Denmark-based non-profit, NGO, ‘Alliance of Democracies’ which reports, “Among the most striking findings of the survey was that more than three-quarters of countries around the world now hold a more positive view of China than the US.”

The survey found that, US President Donald Trump “also had an almost universal negative perception rating.” Trump held a net negative rating in 82 percent of countries around the world, while Chinese President Xi Jinping was viewed negatively in only 44 percent of the surveyed nations.

Only 27 percent of people, globally, view President Trump positively, in comparison to an average of 32 percent of the respondents who viewed President Xi in a positive light. The survey noted that while Xi’s perception had improved by two percentage points, Trump’s perception had declined by 30 percentage points.

Even in the US, perception of China is improving according to premier American polling firm, ‘Pew Research,’ which said: “Within the US too… an improvement in views on China. Pew Research reported in April that for the first time in five years, the share of Americans with an unfavorable opinion of China had fallen from the year before.”

The trend for China in the US has been improving ever since the American public got a glimpse in the social media app ‘Red Note’ of the real-life advantages of Chinese compared to them.

I am not surprised Gibo Teodoro won’t and can’t see the changing realities in the world and how global perceptions of China and the US have reversed. Despite his known intelligence, he is blind to reality as is the case in all subalterns and lackeys.

The US and Trump have made every country, even traditional allies, “enemies” in its ‘Tariff War’ while China is working with 120 countries to improve trades, cooperating through BRICS and with CELAC (South America), ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council, FOCAC in Africa, to build the multipolar ‘Community of Shared Future for Mankind.’
