Nepomuceno orders inventory of all BOC firearms
Customs Police Zambo chief relieved from post
BUREAU of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno ordered the immediate inventory of all BOC firearms and the relief of the Customs Police (Enforcement and Security Service) commander at the Port of Zamboanga following a shooting incident at the Ateneo de Zamboanga Junior High School last August 18 that left two people dead.
In a directive, the Customs Chief said he wants the status of all BOC firearms submitted to him within the next 24-hours and for concerned agency officials to extend their full cooperation in the investigation of the incident being conducted by the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Port of Zamboanga Customs Police District Commandeer SP/LT. Lars Jalani was also ordered placed under preventive suspension after it turned out that the Glock 22 .40 caliber pistol used by his son, Mohammed Mael, in the shooting was issued to him by the BOC in accordance with his rank and duty.
The Grade 9 pupil then killed himself after first fatally shooting Grade 10 pupil Patrick Dylan Wee inside the school campus.
The BOC said the relief does not put any blame on Jalani in connection with the incident but in order to pave the way for a thorough investigation by the authorities.
Nepomuceno added they are extending their “deepest condolences” to the families and loved ones of the victims.
“We stand in solidarity with the Ateneo de Zamboanga community and all those affected by this heartbreaking incident,” the Customs Chief said.
