BUREAU Of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno again showed his professionalism by giving credit where credit is due as he commended the Philippine Navy for its invaluable help in the government’s campaign against smuggling.

In a statement last October 14, the Customs Chief specifically cited the Naval Command for Western Mindanao (NWCM) for its anti-smuggling initiatives that resulted to the confiscation of more than ₱4 billion worth of smuggled goods between September 11 and October 3.

Commissioner Nepomuceno particularly cited the interdiction last September 17 and September 21 at the Davao port of 2 shipments of imported rice from Vietnam bearing spurious shipping  documents.

The MV Tay Son 2 with 12,500 metric tons of rice and the MV Lucky Star loaded with 7,500 metric tons of rice were prevented from unloading after close scrutiny of documents they presented turned out to be fake.
