₱1.68 million undeclared cellphones seized in Cebu

THE Bureau of Customs (BOC)–Port of Cebu, through the Subport of Mactan, said it has seized twelve packages containing 247 units of branded mobile phones originating from China last January 3q valued at ₱1.68 million.

District Collector Alexandra Yap-Lumontad, in a report to Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno, said the shipment has been declared as “personal effects.”

However, actual inspection revealed the presence of the mobile phones in commercial quantities.

Subport of Mactan Port Collector Gerardo A. Campo attributed the discovery to the strong coordination among the various offices of the Port under the guidance of Collector Lumontad.
