Port of Cebu earns praise from Recto, Nepomuceno
PORT of Cebu District Collector Atty. Felipe Geoffrey K. De Vera IV and his staff earned praises from Department of Finance Secretary Ralph Recto and Bureau of Customs Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno during their visit last month for an onsite observation of its facilities and operations.
In his remarks, Secretary Recto conveyed his recognition of the port’s initiatives and consistent efforts to fulfill its mandates.
The Finance chief later toured the POC’s Customer Care Center, Assessment Division, and Operations Division, where he observed client services, entry processing through the Bureau’s electronic-to-mobile (e2m) system, and container monitoring and security measures.
Aside from Commissioner Nepomuceno, Secretary Recto was also joined during the visit by his Chief of Staff Undersecretary Maria Luwalhati C. Dorotan-Tiuseco, Undersecretary Charlito Martin R. Mendoza, and Assistant Secretary Euvimil Nina R. Asuncion, who also witnessed the port’s operations firsthand.
Commissioner Nepomuceno likewise commended the Port of Cebu for its consistent performance, noting that its achievements reflect BOC’s broader commitment to transparency, efficiency, and integrity in governance.
As the bureau’s leading hub for trade and travel, Collector De Vera said he also takes pride in noting that the POC is only the collection district thus far to have all its subports ISO-certified that highlights its compliance to global standards in the areas of operation and administration.
During his briefing, Collector De Vera affirmed their commitment to their threefold mandates laid down by Commissioner Nepomuceno:
To collect revenues lawfully; facilitate trade efficiently; and protect the nation’s borders with vigilance, all anchored on transparency, discipline, and integrity.
