BOC fetes notable stakeholders for audit compliance resulting to more tax collection
AS part of its continuing effort to encourage stakeholders’ support for fiscal transparency and efficient operation, the Bureau of Customs, thru the Post Clearance Audit Group (BOC-PCAG), held a recognition ceremony last March 11 for its stakeholders who played a vital role in strengthening Customs compliance mechanism and in supporting the government’s revenue generation efforts.
The PCAG is headed by Assistant Commissioner Atty. Vincent Philip Maronilla, who is also concurrently the spokesman of the BOC.
Recognizing taxpayers and other stakeholders supporting the audit and compliance program of the BOC is a yearly special event organized by the PCAG under Maronilla’s leadership.
Director Ferdinandino ‘Dino’ A. Tuason, CESO V, of the Compliance Assessment Office, who delivered the welcome remarks, commended the awardees for their continued support and cooperation with the BOC.
Those recognized for their invaluable support include:
Abbott Laboratories Philippines; Organon Philippines Incorporation; Merck Sharp and Dohme (I.A) LLC; Nestle Philippines; Reckitt Benckiser Healthcare Philippines Incorporation;
San Isidro Solar Power Corporation; Sarangani Energy Corporation; Perfetti Van Melle Phils. Incorporation; Mondelez Philippines Incorporation; ELC Beauty Incorporation; and, Bayog Wind Power Corporation.
The BOC said the awardees are the “top” revenue generators who also demonstrated a strong commitment to compliance and transparency and in supporting the agency in its effort to enhance post-clearance audit mechanisms and improve revenue collection.
“We want our stakeholders to be like you—we want you to set an example. We thank you for being good corporate citizens but most importantly I think we thank you for being good Filipino citizens,” Assistant Commissioner Maronilla said.
The event also recognized companies that have shown consistent participation in the Prior Disclosure Program (PDP) for the past five years, namely:
Nestle Philippines Incorporation; Bayer Philippines Incorporation; Century Pacific Food Incorporation; Panasonic Manufacturing Phil. Corporation;
Wyeth Philippines, Incorporated; CPW Philippines Incorporated; Henkel Philippines, Incorporated; Jardine Distribution Incorporated; and Henkel Philippines Applied Technologies, Incorporated.
The PDP reinforces the importance of voluntary compliance and shows the companies’ proactive cooperation with Customs authorities.
Assistant Commissioner Maronilla, in his speech, expressed his gratitude to the stakeholders for their voluntary disclosures and valuable contributions to the BOC’s audit initiatives.
He also reiterated that under Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno, the bureau is committed to accountability, transparency, and in encouraging voluntary compliance among its partners in the private sector.
“We promote a system of accountability, transparency, and voluntariness. I think it’s worth recognizing those who self-declare— malaking bagay po ‘yan, kasi ito talaga ‘yung gusto sanang patunguhan ng Bureau of Customs.
“We want our stakeholders to be like you—we want you to set an example. We thank you for being good corporate citizens but most importantly I think we thank you for being good Filipino citizens,” Assistant Commissioner Maronilla said.
