ICC credibility on the dock as Iran calls for investigation of US, Israel war crimes

1,915
THE already very thin credibility of the International Criminal Court (ICC) is now again on the dock after the Islamic Republic of Iran, thru the Iranian Red Crescent Society, dared the ICC to conduct an investigation on the war crimes committed against Iran by the United States and Israel during their treacherous attack last February 28 and which has continued since then..

Media reports from Arab and Muslim news agencies in the Middle East said the Red Cresent (the equivalent of the Red Cross) wrote a letter to the ICC last March 7 calling for the investigation of the two aggressors for targeting civilian infrastructures and other humanitarian facilities such as hospitals and schools across the country.

The document, submitted in line with international humanitarian law, requested the court to initiate a criminal examination into the attacks.

War Crimes

In the morning of February 28, military forces of Israel and the United States treacherously launched a bombing campaign against Iran that resulted to the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, his immediate family including his 14-months old granddaughter and more than 40 top military officials of Iran.

Iran was caught off-guard as just a day previously, they have reached a preliminary agreement with the United States on the issue of their nuclear program, a key sticking point on their disagreements.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran has joined the long list of world leaders murdered by US Imperialism in the Middle East to serve the interest of Zionist Israel.

Both countries also bombed a children’s elementary school in the outskirt of Teheran that immediately killed 165 grade-school children and the serious injury of dozens more.

A separate bomb attack at an all-girls school the same day also killed some 30 more. As of March 7, US and Israeli forces have already killed more than 1,000 Iranians, nearly 200 of them children, based on the tally of mainstream Arab news media.

According to the letter, the organization filed the request “in the discharge of its humanitarian mandate and in reliance upon the binding principles and rules of international humanitarian law.”

“According to field reports from relief workers, operational documentation, and data recorded by the Iranian Red Crescent Society, a wide range of residential areas, medical facilities, schools, humanitarian facilities, vital urban infrastructure, and public places were directly or indiscriminately targeted,” the letter stated.

Thus far, the Red Crescent said it has documented 6,668 civilian structures were damaged and 5,535 residential units were destroyed or damaged, while 1,041 commercial buildings were also affected.

It added that 14 medical centers and 65 schools sustained damage, raising concerns about the impact of the attacks on healthcare services and education.

It also reported that 11 of its own facilities were targeted and 3 hospital ambulances bombed, further adding that 7 Iranian Red Crescent relief workers were killed or injured in the attacks.

The Duterte Case

The ICC has been previously accused of only targeting leaders of Third World countries unacceptable to the West, many of them from Africa, for harassment and trial.

President Rodrigo Duterte, abducted and forcibly brought to The Hague for trial in a conspiracy involving the Philippine government and the ICC.

It has previously declared Israel Prime Minister Bejamin Netanyahu a ‘War Criminal’ for the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza but has not taken any effort to have him arrested8

The ICC’s reputation was further damaged after former military security aides of disgraced Philippine congressman Elizalde ‘Zaldy’ Co, publicly revealed on February 23 that ICC investigators were essentially bribed by the Philippine government and were willing accomplices in the plot to have former president Rodrigo Duterte arrested and brought to The Hague for trial for alleged crimes against humanity over his administration’s ‘War on Drugs.’

The security aides (see related story) claimed they exchange local currency in the amount of US$2 million—on the instruction of Co– to cover the expenses of ICC investigators when they secretly went to the Philippines in December 2023 to investigate the allegations against Duterte.

The group also identified former senator Antonio Trillanes IV as the investigators’ “handler” to whom they turned over the US$2 million.

Trillanes has denied the allegation and has subsequently filed a complaint for cyber libel against his accusers.

Duterte was forcibly transferred to the custody of the ICC last March 11, 2025, and remains under detention until today.
