‘VICTORY DAY 2025’ A HUGE SUCCESS; BELIES RUSSIA ISOLATION

President Putin reminds world the Soviet Union key to defeat of Nazi Germany

THE May 9 ‘Victory Day’ annually celebrated in Russia’s Red Square with a military parade to commemorate the triumph of the Soviet people and the global community against Nazi Germany and its fascist allies in Japan and Italy, was deemed a great success as it again belied Western Imperialism’s repeated narrative that Russia is globally “isolated” over its launching of a ‘special military operation’ (SMO) in Eastern Ukraine three years ago.

The celebration, now turning 80, was deemed more significant after Russia announced the full recovery of parts of its Kursk region that Ukraine invaded in August 2024 with the assistance of American and EU military experts and equipment under the banner of NATO (North Atlantic Great Organization). Despite the West’s combined effort, Russia last month declared the total defeat of the fascist army of Ukraine in the region of Kursk.

NATO is the European military alliance initiated by the United States and Great Britain in 1949 as a bulwark against further Soviet influence, particularly in Western Europe. it also marked the intensification of the ‘Cold War’ between the Soviet Union and Western Imperialism under the hegemony of US Imperialism.

The Elite Guards of the People’s Liberation Army of China was among those who proudly marched at Red Square for the 80th commemoration of the victory against Nazi Germany, Moscow, May 9, 2025 (clip from the video coverage of SCMP).

The official statement from Moscow said 29 foreign leaders from Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean were present during the ceremony where elite military units from friendly and allied countries took part during the parade in Red Square.

Among the leaders who were in Moscow for the grand celebration were Chinese President Xi Jinping and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of Brazil. China and Brazil are fellow members of Russia under the original ‘BRICS’ (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) economic partnership.

Others present include the leaders from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Burkina Faso, Congo, Cuba, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Guinea Bissau, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, Palestine, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe.

Representatives from North Korea and Russian-controlled Abkhazia and South Ossetia, as well as defense ministers from 31 countries, were also present.

Elite military units from 13 countries whom Russia considers as either ‘ally’ or ‘friend’ also willingly sent elite units from their respective armed forces to participate in the parade. They include military units from Azerbaijan, Belarus, China, Egypt, Laos, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

Prime Minister Robert Fico of Slovakia being welcomed at the Kremlin by President Vladimir Putin. Fico had to fly in a roundabout way instead of flying direct from Slovakia after being refused flight permit by other EU countries. He was also warned of ‘dire consequences’ by EU fascist leaders masquerading as ‘democrats’ for coming to Moscow to join the May 9 Victory Day celebration.

The celebration hugely contrasted with that in 2024 when only 9 world leaders, mainly from the former member-states of the former Soviet Union, were in attendance.

Won’t agree to ‘distortion of events’

After paying homage to the sacrifices made by the Soviets (the USSR bore the brunt of Nazi aggression and brutality among all the warring states at the time with more than 27 million killed during the ‘Great Patriotic War,’ from 1941 to 1945), Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia “will never agree with the distortion of events, with attempts to justify the executioners and slander the true victors.”

“Russia was and will be an indestructible barrier to Nazism, Russophobia, anti-Semitism, and will fight the atrocities committed by the proponents of these aggressive, destructive ideas.”

Putin also dismissed Western Imperialism’s repeated propaganda that the Russian people are against the SMO in Eastern Ukraine aimed at the ‘Denazification’ of Ukraine and prevent it from being further used by NATO as a “proxy” to attack and destabilize Russia.

President Ibrahim Traore of Burkina Faso who is the West’ new whipping boy for going against imperialist interests in his country and in Africa., with President Putin for the May 9, 2025 ‘Victory Day’ celebration.

“Truth and justice are on our side,” the Russian leader said. “The entire country, society, and the people support the participants of the special military operation. We are proud of their courage and determination, that strength and spirit that has always brought us only victory.”

Strengthening the UN System

At a dinner President Putin hosted for the heads of state before the parade, he reminded the decisive role played by the Red Army in the defeat of Nazi Germany. “May 9 is a sacred date for our multinational people. The Soviet Union played a decisive role in the defeat of Nazism. This is the historical truth that no one can hush up, slander or take away,” he said.

Putin also stressed the importance of the United Nations that was formed on June 26, 1945, more than a month after the defeat of Nazi Germany but while the war against fascist Japan was still raging.

Fascist Japan would surrender in the month of September after Soviet forces annihilated its remaining armed forces in Manchuria and two atomic bombs were dropped by the United States.

“Let me repeat today, when a more just world order is being established, the relevance and importance of the UN are once again increasing,” he said.

“It is important to further strengthen its (UN) central, coordinating role in world affairs, to ensure compliance with the fundamental norms and principles of international law recorded in the UN Charter in their entirety, totality, and interrelation.

“This was discussed, in particular, at last years’ BRICS summit in Kazan, which was attended by many heads of delegations present here,” President Putin noted (see related story here on the 2024 BRICS Summit; quotes from the press handouts on TG of the Russian Embassy).
