THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) under the leadership of Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio announced another round of seizure of illegal drugs at the ports of NAIA and Clark.

In a statement on June 15, NAIA district collector Atty. Yasmin O. Mapa said P7.984 million worth of high-grade marijuana (‘Kush’) in several parcels were intercepted at the Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC) in Pasay City.

The parcels, consigned to different recipients, were flagged during inspection operations at the CMEC and subsequently yielded some 5.704 kilos of Kush.

In a separate statement the following day, Port of Clark district collector Jairus Reyes said P5.126 million worth of ‘Ecstasy’ pills consisting of 3,004 pieces and hidden in a shipment declared as ‘pet foods’ was also seized by his men.

Reyes said the shipment came in from Paris, France for delivery to an address in Taguig City, Metro Manila.

The interdiction stemmed from derogatory information relayed by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) about the shipment that finally arrived last June 4.

A full physical inspection revealed the Ecstasy tablets were cleverly concealed in four transparent pouches hidden within dog food pellets.
