Malaysian with ₱112 million shabu collared on arrival at NAIA
Beware of becoming unwitting ‘drug mules,’ BOC reminds OFWs
THE Bureau of Customs – Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC–NAIA) announced the arrest on arrival of a Malaysian national at the NAIA Terminal 1 on February 28 for carrying more than 16 kilos of shabu.
NAIA District Collector Atty. Yasmin Obillos-Mapa, in a report to Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno, said the contraband, weighing 156.526 kilos and valued at ₱112,376,800, was found hidden inside the passenger’s check-in luggage.
The interdiction was carried by members of the Customs Anti-Illegal Drugs Task Force (CAIDTF), in close coordination with the NAIA–Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA–IADITG), Collector Mapa added.
The suspect, whose identity was withheld, was subjected to inquest proceedings for violation of Section 4, Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

In a related development, the BOC again reminded overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to avoid becoming unwitting ‘drug mules’ by falling prey to offers from strangers of “free” or “fully sponsored” vacation trips or “fully paid” trip back home in exchange for hand-carrying baggage surreptitiously loaded with illegal drugs.
The BOC made the reminder after two women OFWs who worked as domestic helpers in the Middle East were arrested one after another on their separate arrival at the NAIA last January for carrying cocaine in their check-in luggage (Pinoy Exposé, February 1, 2026).
