The biggest seizure thus far this year under Collector Mapa

UNFLAGGING vigilance by Customs personnel at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) collection district resulted to the discovery of ₱249.83 million worth of suspected shabu concealed in LED spotlights from Mexico.

NAIA District Collector Atty. Yasmin Obillos-Mapa said the suspicion of those manning the port’s XIP (X-ray Inspection Team) was raised after initial scanning of the shipment revealed “suspicious images inconsistent with the declared goods.”

This prompted the immediate marking of the shipment for 100 percent physical examination and subsequent coordination for inspection at a cargo warehouse in Pasay City and the discovery of the illegal drugs during the actual examination by the Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force (CAIDTF) and the Enforcement and Security Service (ESS) last April 17.

Mapa said the inventory showed a total of 36.74 kilos of shabu found concealed within the LED spotlights valued at ₱249,832,000.

It would be the largest seizure of shabu at the NAIA this year under Collector Mapa since the confiscation of more than ₱112.37 million worth of shabu from an arriving Malaysian national last February 28 (Pinoy Exposé, March 8, 2026).

Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno personally inspected the contraband last April 28.
